This is a just a quick article to alert webmasters about the security risks associated with 0777 CHMOD permissions. Not all webmasters are aware of the risk, or even how to know if they might have 0777 permissions enabled on their files or folders, and certainly not many new webmasters or bloggers will be aware of the risks, or what to do about it.... What's worse is that some software developers in 2011 still advise setting permissions to 0777, and even more worrying is that some software developers dismiss the issue even when alerted to it (....such as one I'm currently dealing with concerning a COMMERCIAL WordPress pluginĀ·

You can change the CHMOD permissions of any file or directory (folder) within your website. The permissions you set will either allow or prevent various users (or user groups) from accessing, modifying or interacting with your site.
Correct CHMOD permissions help to secure your site, the wrong CHMOD permissions will make it vulnerable to hackers, so it is important that you learn the basics & also how to change any unsecure permission settings.....

Building, creating, updating and maintaining a website is actually a lot of work, 365 days a year, despite what some "Gurus" might otherwise claim. A good way of reducing the workload is by automating some content delievery from elsewhere, and one way of doing that is to have some widgets on your website that "pull" fresh content for you from other sites & then deliver it to your readers.
